The former Kent Police officer could not deal with the idea that his estranged wife had started a new relationship so he murdered her, the jury was told.
It was also claimed that Mr Esack was abusive in phone calls and text messages to her, and during one exchange he told her that she was a "walking dead woman", before saying "tick tock tick tock".
The court also heard that he was threatening to his 5ft 1in wife who said that he had inflicted bruises on her.
Prosecutor Philip Bennetts QC said: "It's the prosecution's case, after you have considered all the evidence, that you will conclude that the defendant was a violent and controlling person."
