Shot three times
Jessie and his friends were riding through the park on their bikes when the boys heard shots in the early hours of 9 September, 2006, and the group dispersed.
They later went back to search for Jessie and found his body.
Jessie, a pupil at the Manchester Academy, was shot three times with a semi-automatic handgun in Raby Street.
Police say the youngster, described by his family as a typical teenager who loved music and football, had no involvement in the local gangs and he was probably just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Witnesses frightened
Despite pleas from his mother and the police for the Moss Side community to help identify Jessie's killer, no-one has ever been caught.
His murder has been profiled on BBC One's Crimewatch and a £20,000 has been offered by police for information leading to a conviction.
Officers believe people within the community know who the gunman is but are too frightened to talk to police for fear of retribution from the violent gun gangs which plague south Manchester.
The inquest is scheduled to last three days.
