A man aged in his early 40s is being treated in hospital after a serious assault in south Belfast.

It is believed the man was assaulted in the area of Donegall Avenue at about 0300 BST on Monday.

The condition of the man is said to be serious, but not life threatening. Detectives at Musgrave Street are appealing for witnesses.

Four men arrested nearby a short time after the attack are helping police with enquiries, said a PSNI spokesman.
