The man was rescued on Saturday afternoon after being swept towards the sea from the stream at Becketts Bank, between Peterlee and Hartlepool, County Durham. A search and rescue operation was launched by the Hartlepool coastguard rescue team and the RAF helicopter from Boulmer, following a call from police at 3.21pm on Saturday. The incident happened just hours after 15 anglers were knocked over by a freak wave on Roker Pier in Sunderland.
