Version 0 of 1.

Would-be arsonists smashed a window of a Bolton home with a brick and threw a lit petrol bomb inside the property, police said.

The incident took place between 00:30 GMT and 01:25 GMT at the home in Halliwell Road.

Police said the petrol bomb failed to ignite, with a further petrol bomb recovered at the scene.

Officers said they did not believe it was a random attack, and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Det Insp Chris Walker said: "The occupants are obviously deeply concerned by what has happened and are working with us as we try and establish who is behind this attack.

"Clearly, the use of petrol bombs is a grave offence and had it ignited the consequences could have been catastrophic.

"If anyone knows anything about the people responsible or saw a black car driving around the area in the early hours of this morning, please get in touch."
