Version 0 of 1.

A woman in her 60s was raped by a burglar who broke into her Greater Manchester home in the early hours.

Police said she was woken by a noise at the property near Hyde town centre at 04:35 GMT, and found a man in her hall.

The man, who had a scarf covering his face, demanded money and jewellery and threatened to rape her, before pushing her into the lounge and raping her.

He then forced her to hand over property including a small amount of cash, a necklace and a ring.

'Doubly violated'

He is described as white and about 5ft 5in (1.7m) tall with dark eyebrows.

He was wearing a grey hooded top with black sections and a scarf covered the lower part of his face.

Det Ch Insp Jill Clarke, of the Serious Sexual Offences Unit, said: "This investigation is at a very early stage, but from the initial account this appears to be an horrific attack on a woman in her own home.

"The victim is now being supported by specially trained officers and I want to reassure her and the wider community that we will not rest until we catch this criminal.

"We can only imagine what this poor woman has been through. Your own house is the one place you should always feel safe, but the sanctity of this victim's home has now been doubly violated."
