A group of friends had to be rescued by firefighters after they tried to help a drunken teenage girl who fell into a river.

Fire crews and paramedics were called to Mill Race Lane in Stourbridge, shortly before 20:15 GMT on Monday.

They said the girl had fallen down the river bank and into the water when her three friends tried to rescue her but also fell into the river.

None were seriously injured. All four were treated at the scene.

The teenage girl was taken to Dudley's Russells Hall Hospital as a precaution.
