Yorkshire air ambulances sent to bridge collapse High Askew bridge collapse sees two rescued from river
(35 minutes later)
Two air ambulances have been scrambled to a hamlet in North Yorkshire after reports of a bridge collapsing leaving two people in flood waters. Two people have been taken to hospital after a pedestrian footbridge collapsed into a river in North Yorkshire.
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Great North Air Ambulance were called to High Askew near the village of Cropton on the North York Moors. One patient was taken by the Great North Air Ambulance to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
Yorkshire Ambulance Service confirmed crews had been sent to the scene but had no more details. Another was taken by land ambulance to Scarborough Hospital.
The two people rescued are being flown to James Cook University Hospital. Emergency services were sent to the scene at High Askew near the village of Cropton at about 15:00 GMT after reports of two people being spotted in the water in the River Seven.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said they were not attending the incident. BBC News correspondent Danny Savage reported seeing one patient being taken from the scene, "conscious and sitting upright but covered in bandages".
He said the people involved in the bridge collapse were members of a shooting party.
They were crossing a bridge on private land when it collapsed, sending the two people in to the river.
An eyewitness described both as "walking wounded".
By 16:50 GMT the search of the area had been stopped and only one police car remained at the scene.
The Great North Air Ambulance said a 65-year-old man had been taken to hospital with a head injury but the spokesman could not confirm how serious this was.
