Version 0 of 1.

A large quantity of slurry has polluted a tributary of the River Taf in Carmarthenshire, with Environment Agency officers assessing the damage.

A member of the public spotted the waste in the Nant Cwmfelinboeth tributary north of Whitland late on Thursday night.

Since then teams from Environment Agency Wales have been trying to trace the source of the pollution.

They said it would have a "significant impact on water quality and fish life".

An agency spokesperson said biologists and fisheries officers were trying to establish what impact the pollution may have had.

"Local people should be aware that the river is likely to remain discoloured for several days and they may also notice signs of a foam like material in the water as the slurry begins to break down," they said.

"This is one of a number of incidents that has happened in the area in recent times and once we have located the source we will take the appropriate action against whoever is responsible."
