Most Italians decided long ago what they think of Silvio Berlusconi.
Those who loathe him tend to believe that he is guilty of everything that he is charged with in court.
His supporters, on the other hand, seem ready to listen when he argues that all his legal troubles are a conspiracy perpetrated by his political enemies in the judiciary.
So, although this sensational case will now continue in the run-up to election day, it is unlikely to sway too many voters one way or the other.
But all the same, Mr Berlusconi is still well behind in the polls. He needs every vote he can get.
And if, say, the court returned a guilty verdict close to the election it would surely have some impact.
And, perhaps, Mr Berlusconi will worry that the trial is just one more factor alienating undecided voters in the most closely contested battlegrounds.
