Arrangements are being made for the Belfast man caught up in the Algerian hostage crisis to return home. A spokesperson for the family of Stephen McFaul have described his mood as "bright and together and nervously excited" about returning home.
Stephen McFaul, 36, who was travelling on an Irish passport, was held at a BP facility for two days, along with other foreign nationals. The 36-year-old is expected to arrive back in Northern Ireland on Friday or Saturday.
It has now emerged that he escaped from his captors after the jeep in which he was travelling crashed. The oil worker, who was travelling on an Irish passport, was held hostage at a BP facility in Algeria for two days, along with other foreign nationals.
It has been confirmed that Mr McFaul was the only worker from Northern Ireland among those taken hostage. He managed to escape on Thursday after his captors' jeep crashed.
The spokesperson said Stephen had called his family on Friday morning and was "sad for his colleagues who remain caught up in the crisis".
