Lieutenant Colonel Charlie Mayo, who is in Helmand, said Saturday's attack had been "on a patrol base that we have to the north east of the town of Sangan, just on the edge of the green zone or the cultivated zone as we call it.
"It was quite a ferocious attack and during it unfortunately six of our soldiers were injured and sadly one of the soldiers unfortunately died from his wounds."
