The brother of a man arrested in Kennington, south London, telephoned the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) on Tuesday to make his complaint.
He complained his mother had been mistreated and officers had been disrespectful to the family's religious beliefs, according to the Evening Standard newspaper.
The IPCC said the complaint had initially been referred to the Met Police.
A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said the matter would be "fully investigated".
