A policewoman was shot dead and another seriously injured in a "callous and unnecessary attack", a court has heard. A jury has been shown CCTV footage of the moment a policewoman was shot dead after responding to an alleged armed robbery in Bradford.

Robert Smith, QC, prosecuting, said: "The man responsible for shooting both officers killed Pc Beshenivsky and attempted to kill Pc Teresa Milburn because they stood in his way as he and two other men left premises where they had just carried out a robbery." The CCTV footage, which was played repeatedly in slow motion to the jury, showed Pc Beshenivsky arriving at the scene with Pc Milburn and talking to two street wardens.

Shah, of no fixed address, has also previously pleaded guilty to robbery and three firearms charges in relation to the incident. The images, which were enlarged from those taken by a CCTV camera on Morley Street, then showed the suspects leaving the travel agency and shooting the officers before leaving the scene.

The court heard Pc Beshenivsky joined West Yorkshire Police as a Police Community Support Officer in November 2003 and became a full-time police officer in February last year, nine months before she was killed.
Pc Milburn had been a police officer for 18 months at the time of the shooting.
