Splash! ah-aaah ... saviour of the ITV universe? | Splash! ah-aaah ... saviour of the ITV universe? |
(about 4 hours later) | |
When ITV announced its celebrity diving show Splash!, featuring Olympic silver medallist Tom Daley, it prompted unfortunate comparisons with the same broadcaster's ill-fated Celebrity Wrestling. Except the Saturday night show – won by Eddie "the Eagle" Edwards, in the unlikely event you missed it – proved rather more popular, and has now been recommissioned for a second series, according to Andy Banks on Twitter (the show's expert judge, in the unlikely event etc). Splash! ended its five-part run with 5.6 million viewers on Saturday, with a five-minute peak of 6.5 million, the same average audience as watched its opening episode four weeks ago. You might say it more than washed its face, with a series average audience of 5.42 million. You might say it caused a few ripples by beating BBC1's Clare Balding quiz, Britain's Brightest. You might say: with a line-up of contestants that included Dom Joly, Diarmuid Gavin and Caprice ... water way to spend a Saturday night. You'd be right on all three counts. | When ITV announced its celebrity diving show Splash!, featuring Olympic silver medallist Tom Daley, it prompted unfortunate comparisons with the same broadcaster's ill-fated Celebrity Wrestling.
