Snow has been affecting many areas across Northern Ireland, leading to school closures and treacherous road conditions. | |
Up to four ins (10cm) of snow has fallen in many parts, particularly on higher ground. Snow ploughs were necessary in some of the worst affected areas. | |
Several accidents have been reported. | |
Thirty-one schools have been closed due to the weather with the Newry and Armagh areas worst hit. | |
The Roads Service has advised drivers to take extra care, particularly on untreated roads. | |
All ferry sailings between Rathlin Island and Ballycastle have been cancelled due to the conditions. | |
Further sleet or snow showers are expected later on Tuesday, but they will turn to rain as the afternoon approaches. | |

"It will be very windy this evening and overnight with severe gales and gusts up to 60 mph in some exposed areas of the north and east. | |
