(about 4 hours later)
Two men arrested in County Tipperary as part of an investigation into dissident republican terrorism are due to appear in court later on Saturday evening. Two men from County Limerick have appeared in court in Dublin charged with membership of an unlawful paramilitary organisation.
They were detained when police seized rocket launchers, explosives and two cars on a road in Cahir on Thursday. They were arrested after police seized rocket launchers and explosives during an investigation into dissident republican terrorism in Co Tipperary.
The pair are due to appear before the Special Criminal Court in Dublin. Noel Noonan from North Claughan Road, Garryowen, and Thomas McMahon from Ros Fearna, Murroe, appeared at the Special Criminal Court on Saturday night.
A third man arrested during the same operation has been released without charge. A file is to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. They were remanded in custody.
All three men are aged in their 30s. The pair were detained when police stopped two cars on the N24 road in Cahir on Thursday evening.
It is understood they were detained following a surveillance operation involving the Garda Special Detective Unit and other national and local police units. They were taken to separate garda stations in Clonmel and Cahir for questioning.
At a special sitting of Dublin's Special Criminal Court, a detective garda told a state solicitor that he formally arrested Mr Noonan at 17:00 GMT on Saturday in Cahir.
He said that at the time of the arrest he believed Mr Noonan had committed the offence of membership of an illegal organisation within the state.
The detective said the 34-year-old accused had made no reply when the charge was read to him.
Another detective told the court that he had formally arrested 31-year-old Mr McMahon shortly before 18:00 GMT in Clonmel.
He said that Mr McMahon replied "okay" after he was charged and cautioned.
There was no application for bail and both men were remanded to appear again on 15 February.
A third man arrested during the same operation has been released without charge.
A file is to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
