Part of the M62 motorway in East Yorkshire was closed for a second night because of a chemical spillage.

A tanker overturned on Friday evening between junction 34 near Selby and junction 35 near Goole.

A 300m (980ft) cordon was put in place around the scene, which the fire service said was the "biggest chemical spill in the region for a decade".

The Highways Agency said the tanker was leaking a "toxic and flammable chemical". The road has now reopened.

It said 80 firefighters from nine stations were involved in the operation.

Match delayed

Once the tanker had been righted and the chemical removed, repairs started on the road surface and central reservation barrier before the motorway could reopen.

The incident led to a rugby league match between Hull FC and Bradford Bulls being called off.

The Bulls' coach was delayed on the M62 on Friday evening but the team did reach the KC Stadium in Hull half an hour before the scheduled 20:00 GMT kick-off.

But with nine Hull players who were travelling from their homes in West Yorkshire unable to make it to the ground before the latest allowed kick-off time of 21:15, the game was moved to a 15:00 start on Sunday.
