Forecasters have issued a yellow warning of snow for much of Scotland on Wednesday. Drivers have been warned of difficult conditions on the roads across Scotland caused by snow, ice and flooding.
They said 2-4cm could lie, even at lower levels, with 10cm possible on higher routes. Drifting is possible in strong winds. Several accidents have closed roads, including the A9 at Berriedale and the A96 between Huntly and Inverurie. The A77 at Cairnryan is closed by flooding.
By mid-morning, snow was beginning to lie in central Scotland, with main routes and motorways reported to be affected. Snow and ice have blocked the A85 Crianlarich to Lochearnhead road and snow has been causing lengthy delays on the Kingsway in Dundee.
At about 13:15, the M8 was closed westbound at junction 6, Newhouse. The Met Office said snow would turn to rain, falling onto sub-zero surfaces.
