A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a woman died when she was hit by a car. A 26-year-old man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after an 80-year-old woman was knocked down while crossing the road.
West Midlands Police said the 80-year-old died in the accident on Coventry Road, Yardley, at about 11:30 GMT on Saturday. The woman was crossing the Coventry Road in Yardley, Birmingham on Saturday morning when the crash occurred.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said the woman suffered "multiple serious injuries" and died at the scene. West Midlands Ambulance Service said the woman suffered "multiple serious injuries and was in cardiac arrest" when medics arrived at the scene.
The woman's family have been informed but the police have not yet named her. The man will appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Monday.
A damaged blue Vauxhall Astra was later found dumped at the road side in the Olton area of Solihull, police said.
