A school bus has overturned in Downpatrick, the police have said. A school bus carrying 12 special needs pupils has overturned near Downpatrick, police have said.
Eleven children going to Knockevin Special School were on the bus when it crashed on the Vianstown Road. The bus was in collision with a white works' van at the junction for the Bonecastle Road and Vianstown Road a couple of miles outside Downpatrick.
They are not believed to have been badly injured in the accident. However, police said they and the driver were "extremely shaken" by the crash. There are no reports of serious injuries, the children were all strapped into harnesses.
The emergency services are at the scene. The Vianstown Road has been closed and diversions are in place. Police, ambulance and fire and rescue personnel are at the scene, which is strewn with wreckage and glass.
The bus was going to Knockevin Special School when it was in collision with a van on the Vianstown Road just before 09:00 GMT.
The children are not believed to have been badly injured in the accident. However, police said they and the driver were "shaken" by the crash.
Two passing women motorists went into the vehicle and got the children out.
The children were taken to a nearby house where they were comforted until the emergency services arrived.
Some of the children have been taken to the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald.
The Vianstown Road is closed to traffic at the Bonecastle Road junction.
