Network Rail said the level crossing was not deemed as "high-risk", as it is on a quiet road with little traffic.
The firm added that engineers were on their way to the scene to check whether the crossing barriers and lights were functioning properly at the time of the accident.

First Great Western said the disruption is expected to last for at least another two hours. The passengers on the train have been moved into first class and are being provided with drinks and refreshments.
