Rochdale nightclub death: Twelve jailed over John Lee Barrett killing

Twelve men have been jailed over the death of a man at a Rochdale nightclub in the early hours of Christmas Day in 2011.

John Lee Barrett, 31, died from a stab wound to his back at Sinclair's Bar on Drake Street.

At an earlier hearing at Manchester Crown Court, 12 men were found guilty of violent disorder and attempting to wound with intent charges.

Four defendants were found not guilty or had their charges dismissed.

Five of the men charged with the offences relating to Mr Barrett's death were also charged with wounding with intent over a related attack on his uncle, Patrick Barrett.

At Manchester Crown Court on Monday Lathan Forrester, 23, of Great Western Street in Moss Side was convicted of wounding with intent and attempting to wound with intent. He had admitted violent disorder at an earlier hearing and was jailed for 14 years eight months.

Kamar Anderson, 26, of Hayfield Close in West Gorton and Derico Smith, 20, of Brentnor Road, New Moston were both jailed for 14 years after being convicted of violent disorder, wounding with intent and attempting to wound with intent.

'Mindless and vicious'

Ashaun Townsend, 19, of Woodstock Road in Moston was convicted of wounding with intent and attempting to wound with intent. He had already pleaded guilty to violent disorder at a previous hearing and was jailed for 13 years.

Tremaine Lee, 19, of Yeovil Street in Moss Side was convicted of violent disorder, wounding with intent and attempting to wound with intent. He had already pleaded guilty to violent disorder at a previous hearing and was jailed for 12 years.

Lance Forrester, 26, of Great Western Street in Moss Side was convicted of wounding with intent and admitted violent disorder at an earlier hearing. He was jailed for 10 years.

A 17 year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced to six years after being convicted of violent disorder and attempting to wound with intent.

Rumaal Ingram, 25, of Bucklow Avenue, Manchester, was convicted of violent disorder and jailed for three years nine months.

Olushola Watson, 23, of no fixed abode and Jermaine Wilson, 22, of Spindle Tree Avenue, Blackley were convicted of violent disorder and were both sentenced to two years nine months.

Clarence Edwards, 24, of no fixed abode, and Warren Mason, 30, of Claremont Road, Moss Side were convicted of violent disorder and were sentenced to two years six months each.

Andrew Beckford, Anthan Barnett and Billy Bowen were all found not guilty of violent disorder and the same charge against Anton Ogle was dismissed at an earlier hearing.

Det Ch Insp Pete Jackson from Greater Manchester Police called the attack on Mr Barrett "mindless and vicious".

He added that the men convicted were "violent and cowardly men who only engage in violence when they have numbers on their side".
