Brad Pitt is in talks to headline the second world war tank film Fury for David Ayer, director of End of Watch, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Set in Europe during the final days of the Third Reich, the movie sees the five-man US crew of a tank named Fury take on the desperate members of a German division facing almost certain defeat. Written by Ayer himself, it is described as an honest exploration of battlefield heroics aimed at modern audiences.

Ayer is currently Hollywood hot property following the critical success of his found-footage-style police procedural thriller End of Watch, which starred Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña as LAPD officers working the streets in south central Los Angeles.

Fury will follow Ayer's forthcoming film Ten into cinemas. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, the action movie hits US multiplexes in September but does not yet have a UK release date.
