Police in Suffolk have found the bodies of three children, aged three, two and 11 months, at a home after a woman believed to be their mother suffered fatal head injuries having seemingly fallen from a car park. Officers first went to Gordon Road in Lowestoft just after 8am where a woman, believed to be in her 20s, was found with severe head injuries. Police believe she fell from a multistorey car park facing the road. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Following what Suffolk police said were "inquiries into the incident", officers went to an address in London Road South, close by in the coastal town, where they discovered the bodies of the three children. Police believe she fell from a multistorey car park facing the road. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are treating their deaths as suspicious. The children will be taken to James Paget hospital in Gorleston, a nearby town, where a Home Office pathologist will conduct postmortem examinations on Monday evening and into Tuesday. Following what Suffolk police said were "inquiries into the incident", officers went to an address in London Road South, nearby in the coastal town, where they found the children's bodies.
While police are not releasing identities for now, the force said it was believed the woman was the mother of the dead children. Police are treating their deaths as suspicious. The children were being taken to James Paget hospital in nearby Gorleston, for postmortem examinations by a Home Office pathologist on Monday evening and into Tuesday.
Detective Superintendent John Brocklebank said: "We are in the early stages of a large investigation into what has happened. It is too early to be able to come up with a definitive explanation and we will be keeping an open mind. However, from our initial inquiries we do not believe there is any threat to the wider community. While police are not releasing identities immediately, they said it was believed the woman was the mother of the dead children.
"Our priorities now are to establish the circumstances behind the woman's death and how it may be related to the deaths of the three children. Police are appealing for anyone who has information that may help the investigation to contact police on 101."
