Elizabeth Shassere, from Herefordshire Council, said: "This is a precaution as the material burning is largely wood and the impact on people's health is expected to be minimal."
She said anyone with symptoms of coughing and wheezing, breathlessness, phlegm or chest pain should seek medical advice from their GP.
Dr Arif Mahmood, consultant in public health medicine at the council, added: "Motorists who have to travel through the smoke should keep windows closed, turn off air conditioning and keep their air vents closed."

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said they expected crews to be on the scene for most of the day. Officers have been monitoring the River Wye for contaminated water from the fire and said none had been found.
