A recording of a 999 call believed to be crucial to a murder investigation has been released by police.

Jordan Stapleton, 21, was shot in the chest at his home on Beckhill Chase, Leeds on Tuesday.

The caller said he believed he had heard a gun shot as he walked down a nearby alleyway.

Detectives investigating the shooting are urging the anonymous man to get back in touch. The call was made from Stainbeck Road at 11:46 BST on Tuesday.

Son asleep

The caller gave the address of 16 Beckhill Chase as the likely origin of the gunshot.

Police found Jordan Stapleton in his first-floor bathroom with a gunshot wound to his chest a short time after the call was received by police. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Jordan's four-year-old son was found asleep and unharmed in a nearby bedroom and he is now being cared for by his family.

Det Supt Scott Wood said: "Jordan Stapleton was shot in cold blood in his own home. The fact his young son was asleep yards away in his bedroom makes this crime even more disturbing."
