A man arrested in connection with a Birmingham house fire in which a woman died and her daughter was severely burnt is unfit to be interviewed. Three other women and a man were hurt in the blaze at the house in Cateswell Road, Tyseley, early on Wednesday. Police said the 56-year-old man held on suspicion of murder had been assessed by mental health experts and taken to a secure mental health facility. A spokesman said the situation would be reviewed over the coming days. Post-mortem tests showed the 52-year-old woman died as a result of smoke inhalation. On Saturday, West Midlands Police said her 16-year-old daughter was still "fighting for her life". Detectives said on Thursday that forensic investigations had confirmed the fire was started deliberately. The identity of the dead woman still has yet to be released officially. |
