The two men charged with plotting to derail a Canadian passenger train with the assistance of Al Qaeda denied the charges in court appearances on Tuesday. A lawyer for one suspect said his client, Raed Jaser, was in a state of “shock and disbelief” and described him as a legal resident for about 20 years. The other suspect, Chiheb Esseghaier, tried to deny the terrorism charges he faces before being cut off by a judge. The police say the men were aided by a group in Iran affiliated with Al Qaeda. In London, an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said that there was “no shred of evidence.”
