The inquest is due to resume in Shropshire later. Dr Alexander Kolar told Wem Coroners' Court that two of the children had attempted to defend themselves.
Previously post-mortem examinations found that Mr Fuller died "from multiple injuries consistent with falling from a height". Dr Kolar, who carried out the post-mortem examinations, said Samuel and Rebecca had cuts "consistent with defensive type injuries".
His children all died from stab injuries. He added that Rebecca and Charlotte were stabbed multiple times while Samuel died from a knife wound to his neck.
A knife was recovered at the scene by police officers. Father Ceri Fuller died from injuries to his head and broken bones consistent with a fall from a height. His clothing was stained with blood.
Forensic scientist Christopher Mckenzie said a 17cm-long (6.6in) hunting knife found at the scene contained DNA from the three children.

The four bodies were found at the disused quarry at Poles Coppice, Pontesbury Hill, near Shrewsbury.
The inquest will be held at Shropshire Council's Edinburgh House in Wem.
