Plans for 140 new homes in the Slad Valley near Stroud have been thrown out.

Councillors unanimously rejected the proposals for the much-loved area, made famous by writer and poet Laurie Lee in his book Cider with Rosie.

About 70 protesters were at the Stroud District Council meeting. Developer Gladman said the plan provided many benefits.

The development of 140 homes had been proposed for land off Summer Street.
