Officers called to investigate possible drug offences in the West Midlands said they were surprised to find cannabis hanging from a washing line.

Plain-clothed officers used a warrant to search a home in Shirley after being contacted about possible drug issues in the area, West Midlands Police said.

The force said the "improvised washing line" was drying cannabis indoors as more plants grew in another room.

A 56-year-old man was arrested and bailed after the incident on 19 April.

Sgt Simon Raithby-Allin said: "While the use of the washing line may seem basic the set-up itself was quite sophisticated.

"Electricity at the address has been bypassed and plants at different stages of growth were being prepared."
