Version 0 of 1.

Reports that child-killer Ian Huntley has been attacked in jail by a fellow inmate are being investigated.

The Sun newspaper said former caretaker Huntley, 32, was ambushed by a man with a sharpened plastic knife as he walked to his cell in Wakefield prison.

The Prison Service confirmed it would be investigating an incident after an inmate who had "seemingly sustained no injuries" reported an attack.

Huntley murdered Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells in Soham, Cambs in 2002.

He was given two life sentences for the crime.

The latest claims about his prison life come a month after he tried to kill himself in his cell.

Racism allegations

The Sun said Huntley was forced to fight for his life to fend off the assault.

The alleged attacker, who has not been named, claimed he was racially abused by Huntley.

A Prison Service spokesman said: "A prisoner at HMP Wakefield has self-reported an attack on himself by a prisoner with a plastic knife.

"The alleged assailant has made a complaint that the alleged victim has made racist comments."

He added that the incident would be investigated.
