M9 reopens after body found on carriageway M9 death teenager named as Michael Easton, 13
(about 2 hours later)
The M9 has been reopened after being closed for most of the day following the discovery of a man's body on the carriageway. The body found between junctions 5 and 6 of the M9 near Grangemouth on Saturday morning was that of a 13-year-old boy, police have said.
It is understood the body was found between junctions 5 and 6 of the eastbound carriageway in the Beancross area of Grangemouth just before 06:00. Michael Easton, from Polmont, was last seen in Grangemouth at 21:50 BST on Friday.
The Scottish Ambulance Service attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was found on the westbound carriageway at 05:40 BST.
Police Scotland said it was attempting to establish the man's identity. Police have called for anyone who saw anything, or for any motorists who were travelling on the M9 on Friday night, to get in touch.
Officers asked anyone with any information to contact them on 101. Det Insp Graeme Hendry said: "We are still in the early stages of trying to establish what happened to Michael and we believe motorists who were on the M9 around 21:50 BST on Friday night can be of assistance to us.
"Anyone who was travelling on the road at this time and remembers seeing anything that can help our investigation is asked to contact police on 101 immediately."
The M9 was reopened in both directions at 18:30 BST.
