Three asylum seekers, detained in a dawn raid in Glasgow, are expected to be deported back to Algeria.

However, BBC Scotland understands they will not be joined by a fourth member, who escaped from Home Office officials during the raid last month.

Immigration staff escorted 36-year-old Leila Benai and her two children from their home in Scotstoun.

But the children's father, Azaddine, managed to escape by jumping from the first floor flat.

Ms Benai and the children were taken to Dungavel before being transferred to Tinsley House Detention Centre near Gatwick Airport.

The family won a temporary court order preventing their deportation but on Friday it emerged that they had been denied a judicial review of their case.

Ms Benai and the children are due to be flown back to Algeria on Saturday.

'Very upset'

Her husband, who is still in the Glasgow area, has been booked on a flight from Edinburgh and ordered by the Home Office to meet the family at Gatwick.

However, a friend of Mr Benai told BBC Scotland he would not be travelling with them as he fears he will be arrested if he returns to Algeria.

Oussama Rebikka added: "He doesn't know what to do. He's just thinking about how he can keep his family here. He thinks if he goes back he's going to be murdered."

Mr Rebikka said that Mr Benai has been in contact with his family since he escaped during the raid last month.

He added: "Azaddine has spoken to his wife and children a number of times and they are very upset. His kids always cry and say "dad we want to see you".

"They also ask his wife "when is dad coming?" He's very upset that his family have been split up in this way. It's just unbelievable."
