(35 minutes later)
The body of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev was set to be claimed Thursday. The body of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev has been claimed on behalf of his family.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Terrel Harris said authorities were informed that someone would be claiming the 26-year-old's remains Thursday night. He had no more information. Tsarnaev's body had been kept at a Boston facility after he was killed in a shootout with police on 19 April, four days after the attack on the Boston Marathon that killed three people and wounded more than 260 others.
The medical examiner determined Tsarnaev's cause of death Monday, but officials said it won't become public until his remains are released and a death certificate is filed. Terrel Harris, a spokesman for the office of the chief medical examiner of Massachusetts, said a funeral services company retained by the family had claimed the body. Harris declined to provide details including the cause of death or where the body had been taken.
Tsarnaev died after a gunfight with authorities days after the April 15 bombing. The bombing, near the marathon's finish line, killed three people and injured more than 260 others.
Authorities said Tsarnaev and his younger brother got into a gunfight with police following a massive manhunt for them, setting off a pressure cooker bomb and tossing grenades before the older brother ran of ammunition.Authorities said Tsarnaev and his younger brother got into a gunfight with police following a massive manhunt for them, setting off a pressure cooker bomb and tossing grenades before the older brother ran of ammunition.
