Version 0 of 1.

A Pakistani prisoner in India was severely beaten by another inmate in a prison in Kashmir, Indian officials said Friday, a day after a convicted Indian spy was killed by fellow inmates at a Pakistani prison. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry called the attack an “obvious retaliation” for the killing of the Indian prisoner. K. Rajendra, the director general of prisons in the Indian-held part of Kashmir, said the Pakistani prisoner, Sanaullah Ranjay, had slipped into a coma. Mr. Ranjay was imprisoned in 1999 for militant activity in the Indian-controlled portion. The Indian prisoner, Sarabjit Singh, had been held in a prison in Pakistan for more than 20 years after being convicted of spying and carrying out bombings that killed 14 people in Pakistan.
