Version 0 of 1.

Part of a gangway has collapsed at a ferry pier on the Isle of Wight.

Wightlink, which operates ferries from Ryde Pier Head, said a "small section" of the 3m (10ft)-long gangway at its main berth had "dropped" into the sea.

It happened as it was retracted following a ferry service at about 08:00 BST.

No-one was injured but the operator said the main berth was now out of use, which is expected to cause delays. It apologised to passengers.

Wightlink added there was currently no access for disabled passengers at the pier who are being asked to travel about three miles (5km) to the car ferry terminal at Fishbourne.

Delays are expected until 14:00 BST, and an investigation into the cause is under way.
