A former world boxing champion has donated memorabilia in support of the victims of a fatal hen party minibus crash on the M62.

American Roy Jones Jr said he wanted to help after he saw news of the crash on the television whilst in the UK on a public speaking tour.

He has donated memorabilia to be auctioned for the air ambulance, which tried to save Bethany Jones.

Eleven women and the male driver were seriously hurt in last month's crash.

Trainee nurse Miss Jones was one of 21 women heading from South Elmsall to Liverpool for the party on 26 April, when their minibus was in collision with a lorry.

The boxer visited South Elmsall on Saturday to meet victims of the crash, including Miss Jones's brother Ryan Jones.

'Support come-back'

Mr Jones said his other sister Amy, who was also on the minibus, was still recovering in hospital.

"She's doing a lot better. They've moved her from Leeds to Pinderfields Hospital and now they are moving her to Pontefract to a rehab centre so we can get her physio all day long.

"As soon as she's home we can set Bethany to rest and try and get back as a family - but it's never going to be the same."

The former four-weight world champion boxer said: "The message is when you get knocked down you have to come back and what's most important about coming back is having people to support you in your come-back."
