Thames Valley Police said formal identification of the body, which is still inside the property, is yet to take place and officers are trying to establish the victim's identity and trace their next of kin.
Officers said they were working closely with Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service to establish how the fire started and the scene is likely to remain cordoned off for several days.
Supt Barry Halliday said called it a "serious incident" which he recognised would cause concern in the community.
"I would like to reassure residents that the incident is being fully investigated and anyone with concerns or questions can raise these with local neighbourhood policing officers, who will be carrying out extra patrols of the area," he said.
