Version 0 of 1.

A man has admitted hitting another man with a pool cue in Londonderry over two years ago.

The victim, whose jaw was fractured, can still only eat soft food as a result of the injury he sustained, Londonderry Crown Court was told.

Sean Paul Farrelly, 31, from Strabane Old Road, admitted swinging the pool cue at his victim in the Ritz Bar at Spencer Road on 30 January, 2011.

Farrelly was released on continuing bail until Thursday.

Judge Phillip Babington was told that the victim was sitting in the bar with his girlfriend.

Mr Farrelly sat beside them and made disparaging comments to the victim.

He then went over to a pool table, grabbed a cue and swung it at the victim hitting him on the left side of the jaw.

The 31-year-old victim fell unconscious to the floor and later underwent a surgical procedure that involved having four plates inserted into his jaw.

Judge Babington told Farrelly, who has previous criminal convictions, that he faces a substantial jail sentence when he is sentenced for the offence on Thursday.
