(34 minutes later)
Two car bombs have killed at least 10 people in the Iraqi southern city of Basra, officials say. At least 14 people have been killed and many others injured in a series of car bomb attacks in central and southern Iraq, officials say.
Others are reported to have been injured in the attacks near a bus station and a restaurant. In the first attacks two car bombs targeted a bus station and a restaurant in the southern city of Basra.
Attacks in Basra, a mainly Shia Muslim city, are relatively rare compared with other parts of the country. Soon afterwards, bombs were reported to have struck several parts of the capital, Baghdad.
But in March a car bomb in the city killed 10 and wounded many others. On Saturday gunmen shot and killed a Sunni Muslim cleric. Attacks in mainly Shia Muslim Basra, which was previously relatively peaceful, have increased recently.
The latest attacks follow a rise in violence in recent weeks in Iraq linked to growing political and sectarian tension between the Sunni and Shia Muslim communities. In March a car bomb in the city killed 10 and wounded many others. On Saturday gunmen there shot and killed a Sunni Muslim cleric.
