In a statement, the FBI said the agent, as well as "two Massachusetts State Police troopers and other law enforcement personnel", were interviewing Todashev when "a violent confrontation was initiated by the individual".
"During the confrontation, the individual was killed and the agent sustained non-life threatening injuries."
In an earlier statement, an FBI spokesman had said "the [FBI] Special Agent, acting on the imminent threat posed by the individual, responded with deadly force".
