A spokeswoman for Police Scotland's Edinburgh division said: "The man was found seriously injured in the Duddingston area just after 1am. He was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he died soon after.
"An investigation into this death - which is being treated as a murder - is in its early stages.
"Soon after (the first man was found), a second man was found in the same area of the city. He is currently in hospital being treated for injuries which are not believed to be life threatening."
