Version 0 of 1.

Detroit rallied from 3-0 down to beat Oakland 6-3 to complete a 4-0 American League Championship Series sweep and reach the World Series.

Magglio Ordonez hit his second homer of the game with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to seal the Tigers' victory.

Detroit have had the worst record in MLB over the past 13 seasons, including losing 119 games in 2003.

But first-year manager Jim Leyland has revived their fortunes and they are now in their first World Series since 1984.

Down 3-0 early, the Tigers clawed back to tie it against Dan Haren when Ordonez hit a solo home run in the sixth.

Then after Craig Monroe and series MVP Placido Polanco singled with two outs in the ninth off Huston Street, Ordonez launched his late drive over the wall.

Pitcher Jeff Suppan had three hits and a home run as St Louis beat the New York Mets to a 5-0 for a 2-1 lead in the National League Championship Series.

The Cardinals scored all their runs in the first two innings as they went ahead in the series for the first time.

Suppan's fine 99-pitch performance was allied with a solid defense that allowed only one Mets runner to reach third base.

St Louis scored two runs in the first when left-fielder Scott Spiezio continued his post-season form with a two-run triple.

Suppan helped his own cause in the bottom of the second when he lined an 0-2 pitch over the wall in leftfield for a solo home run to push the Cards' lead to 3-0.

The 372ft shot, which smacked the top of the fence before bouncing over, was the first Cardinals post-season homer by a pitcher since Hall of Famer Bob Gibson's in 1968.

Suppan's homer was only the second of his career.
