Arrest over Anfield newsagents arson attack

Saturday's fire at Robinson News on Priory Road in Anfield left the shop and the flat above "significantly damaged" and the owner, 48, with "serious injuries", police said. A 31-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of arson with the intent to endanger life, has been freed on bail. Merseyside police have said they are treating it as a "hate crime". Det Ch Insp Andy O'Connor said two men had verbally abused the shop owner before throwing what is thought to have been an accelerant into the building. |
