Police officers helped deliver a baby after hearing the screams of an expectant mother outside their station.

Officers from C-Section at Camborne police station in Cornwall heard Kristina Kacorri, 28, in the final stages of labour.

She and husband Max had been on their way to the hospital when the baby boy decided to make his appearance.

Mrs Kacorri gave birth in their car in the station car park, assisted by the "amazing" officers.

'Good location'

Mr and Mrs Kacorri, from Penzance, were in their car travelling the 30 miles to the Royal Cornwall Hospital, near Truro, in the early hours last Friday.

But as they approached Camborne, Mrs Kacorri told her husband it was too late for the hospital and that the baby was on his way.

"I knew where the police station was and thought it would be a good location for the paramedics to know where we were," said Mr Kacorri.

"They heard my wife screaming and thought we were having a fight with each other."

PC Dave Cracknell said: "We rushed out of the station when we heard screaming and were so shocked to find Kristina about to have her baby."

He took on the role of midwife and set about making Kristina, from Penzance, as comfortable as possible.

A paramedic arrived just as the baby was born naturally at 06:00 BST in the back of the family car.

"The police were amazing," said Mr Kacorri. "We are overwhelmed.

"David was there all the time and helped us with blankets. It was quite chilly at 6 o'clock in the morning."

'New challenge'

PC Cracknell said: "Although we have dealt with most things during our service, this delivery was a totally new challenge for all of us.

"We did all we could to make sure Kristina was as comfortable as she possibly could be in the circumstances, and the little boy was born just as the paramedic arrived on the scene.

"We are so relieved that everything turned out well and that the whole family is doing well."

The new family were taken to the hospital where mother and son were found to be in good health.

They went home later with Finlay, their second son, who weighed in at 5lb 10oz (2.5kg).
