A police patrol car was attacked by four masked men with paving slabs and baseball bats after officers stopped a stolen car in Greater Manchester.

Police stopped the Audi car on Windmill Lane, North Reddish, at 00:35 BST.

The men got out wearing balaclavas, attacked the police car causing extensive damage and drove off.

The police officers were uninjured and the stolen Audi was later found abandoned, Greater Manchester Police said.

Insp Matt Bailey-Smith, of the road policing unit, called for witnesses to step forward, adding: "Thankfully none of the officers were injured, but this once again demonstrates how our officers can face violence in even the most innocuous of situations."
