The first edition of Crap Towns was published in 2003 and sold more than 100,000 copies. Some towns included in this year's longlist are perhaps more expected than others – the authors Sam Jordison & Dan Kieran started the endeavour after being unimpressed at the state their hometowns of Morecambe in Lancashire and Alresford in Hampshire. But this year the editors expect the inclusion of places like Brighton, Gateshead, Stratford-upon-Avon, Newquay, Bury St Edmunds and Mayfair to cause some controversy. | The first edition of Crap Towns was published in 2003 and sold more than 100,000 copies.
