A rare Viking ring, thought to be the first to be found in Rugby, has gone on display at a local museum.

The ring dates back to the 9th or 10th Century and was discovered in the village of King's Newnham.

It was declared treasure after experts discovered it contained silver, said Rugby Art Gallery and Museum.

"Generally Viking objects are very rare in Warwickshire as it was not a county which was extensively settled by them," said Angie Irvine from the museum.

"To our knowledge this is the first Viking linked object found in Rugby Borough and definitely the first for the collections so although very small it is quite a significant acquisition to the museum."
